The History

16.05.1945
Heinrich Sander founds the company "Torfindustrie Heinrich Sander" in Schwerin, the field of which is the exploitation of peat and the construction of peat machines.

1948
The company is taken over by the state and is renamed to "VEB Schweriner Industriewerke".

The Soviet Military Administration orders the VEB Schweriner Industriewerke to focus its activities on the production of shipbuilding products. The first manual steering gear, capstans and net-winch gears are produced.

1951
Take-over of the VEB Schweriner Eisengießerei.

1952
Take-over of the VEB Maschinenfabrik Grevesmühlen.

On the occasion of the visit of the Czech President Klement Gottwald to Berlin, the company is renamed to "VEB Klement-Gottwald-Werk Schwerin".

1953-1954
First participations in international exhibitions in Kairo, Shanghai, Beijing and Helsinki.

1957
Inclusion of luffing cranes in the production range.

1961
Commencement of the series production of steering gear with electro-hydraulic drives.

1963/71/72/75
KGW's products are awarded gold medals at the Leipzig Fair (for steering gear, fishing winch systems and automatic mooring winches).

1964
First production of trawl warp winches and larger fishing winches.

1970
The series production of hydraulic fishing winches is started.

1971
Production of the first twin luffing crane.

1974
Completion of the new shed-shop complex.

1985
The CAD/CAM system is introduced.

1986
Completion of the large erection shop.

1990
The company is taken over by the Treuhandanstalt and is restructured. The departments "diversification" and "environmental technology" are created. It is now called "KGW Schweriner Maschinenbau GmbH".

1992
The quality assurance system according to DIN ISO 9001 is certified through Lloyd's Register of Shipping

KGW is privatized

1993
The company "Maschinenfabrik - Engineering Works K. Christian Steen GmbH & Co" in Elsmhorn is taken over by KGW

1994
Certification according TÜV TRB 200/AD - TÜV CERT -

Manufacturing of first deck cranes of type EHZ with higher capacities with KGW crane control

1995/96
Design and manufacture of a special winch and handling module for towed bodies with mechanical and electrical connection to the parent ship in cooperation with STN Atlas Elektronik GmbH, Bremen

1997
First drafts for ecological parking garages and modules for biomass-type thermal power-stations

1998
Production of modules for biomass-type thermal power-stations; plans for ecological parking garages

2000
Participation in the Hanover Industrial Fair

2001
Participation in the Hanover Industrial Fair and WindTech Husum

2002
Participation in the Hanover Industrial Fair and WindEnergy in Hamburg

Participation in the Hanover Industrial Fair

2004
Extension of the product range in the environmental and energy generation field to the wind-powered air-conditioning system and the wind-powered seawater desalination plant

Participation in international trade fairs, such as WindEnergy and SMM in Hamburg

Participation in the international wind energy fair HUSUMwind

2006
Concentration on the core business in the environmental and energy generation field by the sale of the maritime field of production to the newly founded company KGW Marine GmbH

Extension of the product range in the environmental and energy generation field to the complete wind power plant of type NW 22-150 HY of the sub-megawatt class

Participation in the international trade fair WindEnergy in Hamburg

01.12.2006
New foundation of the company, now bearing the name KGW Schweriner Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH; the company becomes a member of the Wilms Group with headquarters in Menden, Germany.
